He is from Akwa Ibom State in southern Nigeria. To pay his way, he worked two jobs alongside his studies.

Majority of Tokai University students are in science and technology programmes

founded in 1924 and is focused on the sciences and technology. Roughly 60 per cent of all Tokai University students are enrolled in science and technology programmes.

 

Genius

Before Ufot enrolled at the university,there was a puzzling mathematics equation that could not be solved for 30 years. The Nigerian genius cracked it in his very first semester.

Award winner

He then went on to win six awards for academic excellence throughout his studies.

On graduation, Ufot Ekong achieved a first class degree in electrical engineering, was the overall best student and scored the best marks at the university since 1965.

Mr Ekong speaks English, French, Japanese and Yoruba and won a Japanese language award for foreigners.

He is currently working for Nissan motor company and already has two patents for electronic car design to his name.

Ufot Ekong has got a good sense of humour and is reported to have quipped once, “Working in a bread factory is like working in a nuclear plant! All white clothes and caps!”

 He prefers driving to train rides and is a music lover. He once complained of his iPod touch which wouldn’t come on and he was at risk of losing his 4000 songs!

 Ufot is said to be a collector of Nigerian songs especially those by Fela, Lagbaja, King Sunny Ade (KSA) and Ebenezer Obey.
