The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu of planning to become Nigeria’s President through the back door if his party wins the election.
- The PDP made the accusation on Friday
- Femi Fani-Kayode says the plan depends on the chances that the vice presidential candidate, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, of the APC will resign after six months if the party wins
- He says Professor Osinbajo has been asked to take an oath that he will resign
- Fani-Kayode says Tinubu is banking on the ‘questionable health condition’ of General Buhari
- The APC has not responded to the allegation
Briefing the press in Abuja on Friday, the spokesman for the Presidential Campaign Organisation of the PDP, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, said the party had uncovered a plan by the APC leader to get to the presidency.
Mr Fani-Kayode alleged that the vice presidential candidate of the APC , Professor Yemi Osinbajo, had been asked to take an oath, promising that he would step down after six months of the party assuming power, if APC wins the presidential election.
“The real reason why Senator Tinubu nominated Professor Osinbajo has been made known to us and we hereby offer a public service to the Nigerian people by drawing attention to it.
“Credible piece of information at our disposal indicates that Tinubu has perfected plans to come to power through the back door.
“Senator Tinubu, according to our information, compelled Professor Osinbajo to swear to an oath that after six months in office, he would resign as the vice president in the likely event that their party wins,” he said.
According to Mr Fani-Kayode, “the wicked plot as laid out by the APC is to force Professor Osinbajo to resign for senator Tinubu to be nominated by General Buhari as his replacement”.
“The ultimate objective of this plot is to ensure that Tinubu becomes president.”
He alleged that Senator Tinubu anticipates that General Buhari may not be alive till the end of the tenure.
“Given the questionable health status of General Buhari, Senator Tinubu ,who is desperate to be president for his own selfish reasons, would buy time in the evil expectation that General Buhari would not be able to go the whole hug.”
The PDP further advised General Buhari to watch his back, praying that God will save Nigeria from desperate politicians.
The APC has not responded to the allegations, but the opposition had always dismissed statements by the PDP in the past, insisting that they were comments depicting desperation.
