Performing the signing ceremony in Abuja on Monday, Professor Chinedu Nebo, described the initiative as the right thing to do and a government’s efforts to ensure the provision of electricity 24/7 for all Nigerians.

The project will be solar powered.

Professor Nebo said: “The project should not be put in the archives. We want to see action, because this things are do-able”.

Devoid of licensing bottlenecks

The Minister described the provision of electricity in smaller ranges as laudable, saying it would be devoid of licensing bottlenecks as stipulated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), which would make the delivery of power to the people easier and quicker.

According to him, the power generated by the venture could be distributed to larger industrial clusters and agrarian communities.

“The government has already embraced a similar initiative as could be seen from its Operation Light-Up Rural Nigeria (OLRN) project kick started in Durumi, Shape, Waru and recently, Wuse market in AMAC, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“The project, though small, would gradually lead to improvement in access to power by such recipients as this will further increase their performance, and thereby further enhance their contribution to the economic well-being of the people,” he said.

The Managing Director of Ezektech Limited, Ezekiel Adeyemi, staid that the Consortium had earlier produced a proto-type of the venture – 7.5kW solar-powered farm settlements in Ondo and 10kW in Ijebu Ode.

He assured the government that the Company would show-case its expertise through the introduction of global standard technology in solar-powered energy source.
