OFURE OKONDO ADDRESSES A BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTEST RALLY IN KETTERING, UK.

“Hi,

My name is Ofure Okondo and I am proud to be a black girl.

I’m here today for the same reason as all of you – because black lives matter!

I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe , I cannot breathe. George Floyd had a knee in his neck for almost nine minutes. For nine minutes he PLEADED for his life.

Why? Because he was a black man!

And because of that, cities have been set on fire just so he can get the justice he deserves.

Why are we not getting the justice we deserve?

How many people need to suffer until this stops?

No justice, no peace!

This is bigger than just one case; this is about everyone. For years and years and years, black people all across the world have experienced racism on a day-to-day basis and we will stand for it no longer. You see, America is worse, but the UK is NOT innocent.

Ofure with her elder brother, 17-year-old Esele Okondo; children of Vincent (Vinco) Okondo of Ubiaja, Edo State.

It is 2020 and we are still fighting for the right to live without worrying about the melanin in our skin. It is 2020 and there are still young black children out there wondering, “Would it be better if I was white?”

We need to do better. We need to stop putting hate into our black youth, start educating ourselves on how we can make a change; because we can ALL do it.

Today, we’re here as one. Today, we fight for the lives of black people across the globe. Every chant is one step closer to equality. Today, we fight. Because black lives matter, and the world is finally waking up to that. We can breathe.

So, let’s use our voices to change the world one chant at a time.

Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter!!

Thank you!”
