  • Protesters advanced towards the White House in Washington on Sunday forcing the secret service to move President Trump into a bunker for his personal safety

As protests escalate across the US over the mindless killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis policeman, Senator John Chan Liu of New York, who participated in the protests in Washington as an observer, says the protesters have been largely peaceful despite incidents of looting of shops.

Senator Liu acknowledged the lootings but stressed that the young protesters condemned the looters and made it clear that they were out to make a statement that the injustice in the system has got to stop.

Trump was reportedly taken into a bunker for a couple of hours in the White House for his personal safety, as the protesters advanced towards the seat of government on Sunday.

Asked to comment on the way President Donald Trump has been handling the development, Senator Liu, a Democrat representing the 11th District in Northeast Queens, New York State, told the BBC that it is better to keep quiet when you have nothing good to say about somebody.

Liu echoed the words of late South African Reggae legend, Lucky Dube, in the track Shut Up in his very last Album Respect.
