PDPThe leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked one of the aspirants vying for the party’s presidential ticket, Professor Akasoba Duke-Abiola, to collect her Presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.

  • The PDP says Professor Duke-Abiola has refused to come for her forms in spite of deadline extension
  • Form was  sent to her but she did not take it
  • She had filed a suit against the PDP for earlier making Jonathan the sole presidential candidate
  • PDP says she has till Friday to collect her forms or forget it

The spokesman for the party, Olisa Metuh, said in a statement on Thursday that the party had noted the refusal of Professor Duke-Abiola to collect her forms in spite of the one week extension granted by the party, which expires on Friday, November 14.

The party also noted that Professor Duke-Abiola wilfully refused to collect her Expression of Interest form with Code number PD002/P and serial number 0000003 and Nomination form with Code number PD003/P and serial number 0000003 even after it was sent to her through her lawyers.

Mr Metuh said Professor Duke-Abiola’s refusal to collect the forms suggests an ulterior motive, as other aspirants – Dr. Ghalil Tafawa Balewa and President Goodluck Jonathan – collected their forms on November 6 and October 30 respectively.

Professor Duke-Abiola filed suit

The party expressed surprise that Professor Duke-Abiola, chose to go to court instead of taking advantage of the extension, which expires on Friday, November 14 to collect her forms.

Mr Metuh said the aspirant still had until the close of November 14, 2014 to collect her forms, stressing that failure to do so, will force the party to consider her as not being interested in the contest, but out to cause confusion and foment trouble in the party.

Professor Duke-Abiola had gone to court to question the decision of the PDP to make President Jonathan the sole presidential candidate of the party.

But the party reversed the decision and extended the period for the collection of the forms to allow persons interested in the position collect their forms.
